Day I - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom City, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Small Circuit and Phnom Bakheng Hill Sunset or Pre Rup Temple Sunset

Angkor Thom city complex
– you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transfer onward to visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square you access this town through 5 gates, 4 of them represent the cardinal points and the 5th one the Victory Gate was the one leading directly to the Royal Palace area.

You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.

After passing through the South Gate, you will go down along this shady road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.

From the Bayon continue by walk to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.

Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This Terrace was the place where the parade was done for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King, depicting the water world.

Ta Prohm overgrown temple – continues transfer to Ta Prohm - one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.

Your visit will include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”, the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Angkor Wat – continue visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by Suryavarman II in early 12th century. Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the mount Merou, home of the gods, considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple that is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II made during his reign. As well Angkor Wat is well known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the all temple. But like most say, it takes a life time to discover all the wonders of this temple.

Return to Siem Reap after watching sunset at Phnom Bakheng Hill. Dominating the flat landscape, this 10th Century mountain temple is the most popular spot in the area to watch a classic sunset over Angkor Wat and the surrounding forest or

Watching sunset at Pre Rup temple, a Hindu temple, built as the state temple of king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction. The temple’s name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.

Day II - Angkor Wat Sunrise, Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre, Grand Circuit and Chong Kneah Floating Village

Angkor Wat sunrise
- pick up at 5am for viewing the picturesque sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Return to hotel for breakfast.

Banteay Srei - after breakfast at your hotel, depart for an excursion to visit Banteay Srei, made of pink sandstone and is one of the smallest temple you can visit but one of the most beautiful as well. Built in 967 AD by a guru to Jayavarman V, it showcases the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architectures. As well the carvings and bas-relief are in a perfect condition although being here for more than millenary.

On the way back to Siem Reap, visit an isolated temple of Banteay Samre. Situated on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex, this temple is very similar to Angkor Wat. The structure with its typical lotus flowers shaped tower but has very compact proportions. This temple was built during the best period of the Khmer architecture and its condition is almost perfect.

Grand Circuit - explore the highlights of the Grand Circuit, like the overgrown Preah Khan temple and Neak Poan with its artificial lakes. Continue to East Mebon temple and The Pre Rup Temple.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Chong Kneah floating village - continue transfer to the Phnom Krom pier for boat on Tonle Sap Lake to visit floating village of Chong Kneah at the edge of Tonle Sap Lake. Cambodia’s Great Lake, the Boueng Tonle Sap (Tonle Sap Lake) is the most prominent feature on the map of Cambodia – a huge dumbbell-shaped body of water stretching across the northwest section of the country. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia, swelling to an expansive 12,000km2. During the dry, half of the year the lake shrinks to as 3000 km2, draining into the Tonle Sap River, which meanders southeast eventually merging with the Mekong River at the “Chaktomuk” confluence of river opposite Phnom Penh.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.

Day III - Preah Vihear, Koh Ket and Beng Melea Excursion

Preah Vihear – in the morning, after breakfast at the hotel, pick up and transfer onward to visit Preah Vihear Temple. It is situated atop cliff in the Preah Vihear province of northern Cambodia (180 kilometers from Angkor Wat) and on the border of Kantharalak district (amphoe) in Sisaket province of eastern Thailand. In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership, a majority of the International Court of Justice in The Hague awarded the temple to Cambodia.

Affording a view for many kilometers across a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the six-centuries-long Khmer Empire. As a key edifice of the empire's spiritual life, it was supported and modified by successive kings and so bears elements of several architectural styles. Preah Vihear is unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along a long north-south axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the east. The temple gives its name to Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, in which it is now located.

On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Construction of the first temple on the site began in the early 9th century; both then and in the following centuries it was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva in his manifestations as the mountain gods Sikharesvara and Bhadresvara. The earliest surviving parts of the temple, however, date from the Koh Ker period in the early 10th century, when the empire's capital was at the city of that name.

Today, elements of the Banteay Srei style of the late 10th century can be seen, but most of the temple was constructed during the reigns of the Khmer kings Suryavarman I (1002 -1050) and Suryavarman II (1113 -1150). An inscription found at the temple provides a detailed account of Suryavarman II studying sacred rituals, celebrating religious festivals and making gifts, including white parasols, golden bowls and elephants, to his spiritual advisor, the aged Brahman Divakarapandita. The Brahman himself took an interest in the temple, according to the inscription, donating to it a golden statue of a dancing Shiva. In the wake of the decline of Hinduism in the region the site was converted to use by Buddhists.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Koh Ker – continue visit Koh Ker. It is a former capital of the Khmer Kingdom, pre-dating Angkor, and is home to many spectacular 10th century temples. A brief interruption: the exception took place in 928AD when, for reasons that remain unclear, there was a disruption in the royal succession. King Jayavarman IV moved the capital 100 km from Angkor north to Koh Ker, where it remained for 20 years. When the capital returned to Angkor, it centered not at Phnom Bakheng as it had before, but further east at the new state-temple of Pre Rup (961AD).

Beng Melea
- continue to visit Beng Melea. Sprawling jungle temple covering over one square kilometer, the temple is largely overrun by vegetation and very lightly touristed, giving it an adventours, ‘lost temple’ feel. Photographers: trees growing from the broken towers and galleries offer some of the best ‘tree in temple’ shots aside from Ta Prohm. Constructed in a distinctly Angkor Wat style under the same king that built Angkor Wat, Beng Melea preceded and may have served as a prototype of sorts for Angkor Wat. Though there are some lintel and doorway carving, there are no bas-relief and the carvings are comparatively sparse. When the temple was active, the walls may have been covered, painted or had frescos. In its time, Beng Melea was at the crossroads of several major highways that ran to Angkor, Koh Ker, Preah Vihear (in northern Cambodia) and northern Vietnam.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Return and drop you off at your preferred destination.

Angkor wat excursion

We booked 6 day tour of siem reap temples with Sopan Rath and his team. Great experience from Mr. Kim and Mr.Moyi. Both of them treated us like royalty, polite, courteous and extremely attentive to our needs. The whole experience was wonderful. Angor wat sunrise will be with us forever. We will recommend this team to all travelers interested in seeing the magnificent temples of Cambodia.

Sophoan Rath always stayed in communications with us and his friendly team to make it a pleasant experience for the two of us.

Kim is simply wonderful. He also gave us 4 tasty ripe mangoes from his garden, which made us feel that we are his family.

Excellent 2 day tour with Mr.Kim! Amazing photos and memories

This review, from our 2 day tour in late March and I can't say enough positive things about our entire experience with Angkor Wat Services day tours. It's been one of the top highlights we've told friends about since returning - so much so, that our friend John recently booked his tour with them for a single day tour.

The hospitality and service - from start to finish was to a level I've never experienced and rather exemplified the hospitality we experienced everywhere during our time in Cambodia. Every detail was thought of including Kim's stopping by our hotel the day before to ensure everything was planned and ready to go upon our arrival the next day - to kick off with the sunrise tour and a 5 am pick up.

I am an avid picture taker - have a go pro , drone, cameras - you name it. I LOVE photos and capturing the memories of my travels. Without a doubt - this incredible tour was made all the more memorable by the patience and attentiveness of Kim - not only did he take hundreds of amazing photos for us - but really unique angles and approaches that captured the beauty of the Angkor national complex, but also allowed us to avoid the crowds and feel nearly alone in one of the busiest tourist sites of S. East Asia.

Thank Mr. Sophoan, our driver and especially to Kim who made our trip so unforgettable!

Perfect in every way!

From the time we arrived till the time we left, our driver Tuna and guide Sophoan ensured our group (4 adults and 3 older teens) had one of the most memorable experiences we ever had. They were timely, polite, trustworthy, resourceful and extremely knowledgable. They exceed our expectation and it was difficult to say goodbye. The company was referred to us from friends from Cambodia, Singapore and Brazil, and we are very grateful for their services. Thank you!

Knowledgeable, punctual, friendly and accommodating!

We did three days of tours with Angkor Wat services and they were fantastic. The first two days our guide was Khong (sp?) And he was very entertaining, new his history and the various attractions very well and just a really nice person. The third day we Sophoan was our tour guide and he was also outstanding, with extensive knowledge but also it was great to listen to his many stories of life in Cambodia. The bus was very clean and well maintained. The drivers were polite, helpful and very professional. I recommend Angkor Wat Services for tours in Siam reap without reservation.

Amazing first trip to Siem Riep!

This was my first time to Cambodia, and it was a great experience in Siem Riep thanks to Sophoan! Our 3 day private tour was well organized with private driver and flexible schedule to suit our needs. If we wanted to go back to the hotel earlier or change dinner plans, Sophoan would arrange. Sophoan is so friendly and tells us a lot of information about the historical sites. We went to Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphuon, Elephants Terrace, Banteay Srei, Beng Mealea and Preah Vihear. Preah Vihear was a longer drive up the mountain, but it was very nice with the view! The weather was sunny, hot and dry, so not as much greenery to see. Overall, our trip had a great balance of outdoor sightseeing and relax time, thanks to Sophoan!

Amazing experience

We had a fantastic time thanks to Sophoan, he is a very experienced, knowledgeable and professional guide. He really brought Angkor Wat alive for us.

He was kind and polite and nothing was too much trouble for him. He had so much knowledge about Angkor Wat and all the surrounding temples, I really feel we would have missed out on a lot of information if we hadn't been accompanied by Sophoan.

I cannot recommend this company highly enough, if you are planning a trip to Cambodia definitely book a tour with Sophoan, the tour was the highlight of our holiday.

A memorable trip!

I was referred to Sophoan by my sister who highly recommended him for my trip to Siem Reap and I’m thankful for that. My son and I enjoyed the service and hospitality provided by him. Besides being patient and humble, Sophoan is a very experienced and responsible English-speaking tour guide; indeed very helpful throughout our stay in Siem Reap. He is always smiling and also very knowledgeable about all aspects of Cambodia, from the historical facts to the local culture, therefore providing insightful explanations. We would certainly engage him again for our next visit and highly recommend him for those visiting Cambodia. You can trust that you are in good hands.

Private guided tour

We recently completed a three day-visit to Siam Reap. Our guide was Sophoan Rath (poan45@gmail.com). Siam Reap was a memorable experience made more so by the attentive involvement of the gentleman who shared with us his city and it's varied attractions. Sophoan provided companionship as well as insight to the archeological offerings, the community, history and development of Cambodia. My wife and I rarely engage guide services. The true win, however, is when, through the involvement of your guide you experience not only the tourist offerings but leave with insight as how a community functions, it's history, politics and it's development aspirations. Worthwhile to listen to your friends - Poan is the best guide

I planned to visit Cambodia last year but I cancelled it just because Poan was not available at that time.

Yes, my friend who recommended Poan to me was that serious, she convinced me to wait for another chance rather than having one who is not proved to be as good. So, I waited a year and finally visited Cambodia just last week and it was worthwhile waiting! Before we arrived in Siem Reap, Poan arranged everything from hotel (stayed in Victoria Angkor, it is a fairly nice report & spa hotel at a very reasonable price) to well thought-out itineraries. I have been travelling around many countries and by far Poan is the best tour guide I have met. His kind and heartwarming hospitality makes you feel at home throughout your trip. I had so much fun talking with him about the ancient & modern history of Cambodia, he has experienced (or survived...) the Khmer Rouge regime and shared with me his vivid memory of that cruel time.

Poan has never got tired of my endless questions, and most of my questions were repeated due to my bad memory... Hey friends out there, if you are planning a trip to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat tour, you have my word that he is the right one.

I already miss him who became my best friend and cannot wait to see him again on my next trip!

Sophoan Rath - Fantastic guide

For a great tour of the Angkor Wat temples and the region, we can't recommend Sophoan enough. He was a fantastic and highly knowledgeable tour guide, a very nice and enthusiastic man who's English was impeccable. He also gave us a great insight into the history of Cambodia as he has lived through some of the worst of it. Lisa and David ps - Sophoan it took us long enough to write this, thanks again for making our trip so memorable.

Thank you for the wonderful tour!!

Just got back from cambodia a few days back and had Mr Sophoan Rath as my guide. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking an English speaking guide who is friendly, punctual and personal. Another plus point is his deep historical and cultural knowledge of cambodia which was very insightful especially during the temple tour. Travel around siem reap was in a comfortable air-con 4x4 with ample supply of cold water. Mr Sophoan does not rush through his tour and goes the extra mile if you have any special request/questions regarding siem reap. Did the temple (with sunrise) and floating village tour with him. Overall, great service, great guide, great friend. 2 thumbs up, even 3 if I could.

Like Angkor Thom, the temple of Banteay Chhmar was accomplished during the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century. One of the temple's shrines once held an image of Srindrakumararajaputra (the crown prince), a son of Jayavarman VII who died before him. The temple doors record Yasovarman I's failed invasion of Champa. The long Old Khmer inscription found at the site (K.227), and now on display in the National Museum, Phnom Penh, relates how Prince Srindrakumara was protected on two different occasions by four companions in arms, once against Rahu, and once on a military campaign against Champa....

The glorious temple of Angkor Wat was rediscovered in 1908. Since that time, thousands have flocked to Siem Reap, the center of the former Angkor Empire and home to hundreds of temples and lost cities. They have discovered as you will, the mysteries that this spot on the planet holds for many. Experience a traditional floating villages and markets as you make your way on the Tonle Sap, Asia's largest freshwater lake. There will be time to stop and shop, too!...

The archeological complex of Preah Khan (of) Kampong Svay or Prasat Bakan (according to local pronunciation) or Bakan Svay Rolay is located 100 km east of Angkor, in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia. It stands as the largest single religious complex ever built during Angkorian Era, as its exterior enclosure is about 5 km square, even if the isolated location makes it one of less visited Angkorian sites....
