Day I - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom City, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Small Circuit, Phnom Bakheng Hill Sunset or Pre Rup Temple Sunset

Angkor Thom city complex
– you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transfer onward to visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square you access this town through 5 gates, 4 of them represent the cardinal points and the 5th one the Victory Gate was the one leading directly to the Royal Palace area.

You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.

After passing through the South Gate, you will go down along this shady road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.

From the Bayon continue by walk to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.

Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This Terrace was the place where the parade was done for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King, depicting the water world.

Ta Prohm overgrown temple – continues transfer to Ta Prohm - one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.

Your visit will include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”, the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Angkor Wat – continue visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by Suryavarman II in early 12th century. Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the mount Merou, home of the gods, considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple that is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II made during his reign. As well Angkor Wat is well known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the all temple. But like most say, it takes a life time to discover all the wonders of this temple.

Return to Siem Reap after watching sunset at Phnom Bakheng Hill. Dominating the flat landscape, this 10th Century mountain temple is the most popular spot in the area to watch a classic sunset over Angkor Wat and the surrounding forest or

Watching sunset at Pre Rup temple, a Hindu temple, built as the state temple of king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction. The temple’s name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.

Day II - Angkor Wat Sunrise, Banteay Srei, Kbal Spean River of 1000 Lingam Waterfall, Banteay Samre and Grand Circuit

Angkor Wat sunrise
- pick up at 5am for viewing the picturesque sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Return to hotel for breakfast

Banteay Srei - After breakfast at your hotel, depart for an excursion to visit Banteay Srei, made of pink sandstone and is one of the smallest temple you can visit but one of the most beautiful as well. Built in 967 AD by a guru to Jayavarman V, it showcases the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architectures. As well the carvings and bas-relief are in a perfect condition although being here for more than millenary.

Kbal Spean waterfall - continue to the original “River of a Thousand Lingas” Kbal Spean is and intricately carved riverbed deep in the foothills the Cambodian jungle. Lingas are phallic representations sacred to Hinduism as symbols of fertility, and hundreds of them are carved into the rock here, as are several carvings of Gods and animals above the small waterfall.  The area was only rediscovered in 1969 when French researcher Jean Boulbet was shown the carvings by a local hermit. Kbal Spean lies 50Km northeast of Siem Reap 18Km from Banteay Srei on a dirt road. It takes from 1-2 hours to get there from Siem Reap.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

On the way back to Siem Reap, visit an isolated temple of Banteay Samre. Situated on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex, this temple is very similar to Angkor Wat. The structure with its typical lotus flowers shaped tower but has very compact proportions. This temple was built during the best period of the Khmer architecture and its condition is almost perfect.

Grand Circuit - explore the highlights of the Grand Circuit, like the overgrown Preah Khan temple and Neak Poan with its artificial lakes. Continue to East Mebon temple and return to Siem Reap after viewing sunset at The Pre Rup Temple.

Then it's time for shopping at the Artisans d'Angkor, where you can observe young Cambodians being trained in the making of traditional crafts.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Return and drop off at your preferred destination.

Wonderful Experience!

What a wonderful Cambodian experience. Mr. Sophoan arranged all of our vehicle transportation from Bangkok to Siem Reap, and then arranged our hotel stay. Our tour guide, Mr. Kim, is one of a kind! He is truly wonderful. Good English, always happy, very knowledgeable and very patient with all of our 7 year olds questions. He kept our teens engaged, and made sure we were always well taken care of. We were extremely pleased with our experience. Thank you.

Superb short trip.

We had the best time on the entire trip. From the entrance to the exit. Mr. Kim was a pleasure to have as our tour guide. He was there for us at all times. Everything was taken care of for whatever we required. His way of telling the story about the sites and epics, etc. I'd also like to thank everyone else in the crew for helping to make this trip memorable. We have and will continue to refer many people, including friends, family, and colleagues.

We only encountered a slight hiccup at the border immigration services for the Thailand re-entry, so I would like to request that future travellers request a separate line of re-entry.

Angkor Wat Services (P) Ltd is a good , reliable and dependable tour agency. The drivers are courteous and friendly through they speak little English. They have good English speaking guides. I wish to acknowledge Mr.Voeurn who was with me for 2 days. His knowledge about various places including history and general knowledge is amazing. Would be very happy to engage the company and the guide for any visit from any known person. They are quite flexible on the timings and rates. I am very happy with them

Angkor Wat and Nearby Places

We had an excellent tour guide Mr. Sim Sopheaktra arranged by Mr. Sophoan Rath of Cambodia Travel Trails for 2 full days.We were taken to Great City of Angkor Thom, Bayon temple, Terrace of the Elephants, Angkor Wat, Sahasra Lingams in Kbal Spean, and Tonle Sap Great lake with a cruise to Floating Village, etc. Mr. Sim Sopheaktra was excellent in that he spoke decent English and had a thorough knowledge of the history of the places that he showed us. He has also published some books on Angkor Wat. We were also taken to a local dance show in the evening and thanks to our guide, we had very good seats right in the front of the stage. Cambodian Government charges standard fees for seeing Angkor Wat depending on the number of days of your visit. Boat Cruise also costs extra money. I would definitely recommend Cambodian Travel Trails for your visit to Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat All Day Tours by Cambodia Travel Trails

Ten days ago, my wife and I visited Siem Reap and used Cambodia Travel Tours for sightseeing Angkor Wat and surrounding attractions. We were met the airport upon our arrival by our tour guide Mr. Sim Sopheaktra. We used the tour services for 2 days. The tour included an air-conditioned car with a separate driver and tour guide. There was plenty of cold bottled water available for us throughout our tour. Sim happens to be very knowledgeable on Cambodian history. He has also written a book on the history in the Cambodian language. Both the driver and the tour guide were very courteous throughout our trip and accommodated to our needs (we are vegetarians). Sim was also able to procure us very good seats at the evening dinner and cultural show at Koulen Restaurant. I wanted to go to Sahasra Linga in Kbal Spean which was not in the itinerary suggested by Mr. Sophoan Rath of Cambodia Travels. That place is 50 km from Siem Reap and it takes an hour and fifteen minutes one way. Add to this another two hours for climb up the hill to see the Lingas. Mr. Rath acceded to our request and we were able to pack that site also among the places that we saw during our trip. We would strongly recommend them for a nice experience in visiting Angkor Wat. Their price was better than what our hotel would offer us.

Great trip with Poan

We heard about Poan from a colleague and we are glad that we had him as our guide for Siem Reap. Poan is very knowledgeable, nice, and patient. My husband and I were traveling with my parents-in-law. Poan was very nice and patient when my parents-in-law needed to rest, when we asked a lot of questions and when we discussed about the next days' trip. He suggested a very good itinerary and we got to see most of the famous temples. When we had to cancel our last day's trip last minute because my parents-in-law were too tired, Poan was still very nice to us. The drive Tuna was a nice guy too, funny and helpful. They both made sure that we had enough cool water and umbrellas during the hotness. We strongly recommend Poan and Tuna!

Touring Siem Reap with Sophoan - Wonderful!

I am not even sure where to begin with this long overdue review... My husband and I traveled to Siem Reap for two short days of sightseeing in December 2012. We could not have asked for a better tour guide than Sophoan. From our arrival at Siem Reap airport late in the evening, to our very early departure on Jan.1st (what a way to welcome in the new year, huh?), Sophoan made everything flow smoothly and stress-free for us. His knowledge of the area and his country's history is impressive. My husband likes to ask a lot of questions...mostly about how old things are and when certain events took place, and Sophoan knew it all! As someone else mention, he is a special person. I did not feel like he was just my guide, taking me to places because he had to; I felt like he was an old friend sharing his city with me. Not everyone has the ability to make you feel that way. After our time in Siem Reap we traveled to Vietnam, and while we encounter some great guides there, none of them were quite like Sophoan. I have already recommend him to one friend planning to travel to Cambodia, and I will recommend him to anyone else I know of who plans to travel there. Thank you for sharing Siem Reap with us, Sophoan!

Angkor wat Services wonderful guides

Sophoan Rath (our tour guide) is a very informed, proffesional and kind tourist guide that made of our trip around Cambodia a wonderful and unforgettable experience, not only because he showed us the touristic attractions but also because he taught us about Cambodian reality, past and present. I fully recommend Poan to be your guide in your next trip to Cambodia. Poan is a very good tour guide but most of all, he is a great person.

Two days in Cambodia

We visited Siem Reap as part of a holiday to Thailand and Cambodia in January / February 2012.

Anghor Wat and Anghor Thom City are amazing places and our visit to these and the floating village was made even more special by Saphoan Rath (Phoan),

From the moment he greeted us at the airport until we flew away again he provided the perfect knowledge and support needed to fully appreciate all that was around us but without ever rushing us or failing to give us time for our own thoughts.

To hear of his life in Cambodia, which is a truly remarkable story in itself, left us with a great feeling of respect and friendship towards him.

In retrospect, his country deserves far more attention than our two days gave and is on our 'Return To' list - hopefully to renew our acquaintance with Phoan and to see much more of Cambodia with him - his services are thoroughly recommended..
