One Day Trip: Bangkok to Angkor Wat and Back

Our tour company has done one-day trip, Bangkok to Angkor Wat and Back, for years.

Our original one-day trip starts from picking up our guests at 3AM in the morning at hotel in Bangkok, and guests are transferred onward to Poipet border (Cambodia-Thai border) crossing at 6AM (border opens from 6AM to 10PM everyday). After completion of border crossing, guests are transferred to guided tour to visit the must-see temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom city, Bayon, Taprohm and other sites. Guests will be taken back to Poipet border by 6PM, and will arrive back to hotel in Bangkok at around 10PM at the same day.

Recently, the Thai immigration has announced a new law that all visitors who are currently in Thailand and wish to visit neighboring countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia, by land border crossing, have to complete at least 24 hours stay (overnight stay) in any of those countries from the time you cross border before entering back to Thailand.

This new law interrupts our one-day trip, and therefore we have made some changes accordingly:

Option 1
Guests will be picked up at 3AM in the morning at guests' pick up location in Thailand, cross the border, and visit the must-see temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Taprohm and other temples on small circiut as per the itinerary. After the tour, we will have you stayed overnight at City Poipet Hotel in Poipet border, Cambodia. Guests will then cross border at 6AM next morning, and expect to arrive at guests' drop off location in Thailand at around 10AM.
During the night of your stay in the border, there are a lot of fun activities that you may experience and enjoy, such as border nightlife, food, casino, etc.,

Option 2
Guests should be picked up NO LATER THAN 6PM a day before at guests' pick up location in Thailand. Guests will cross the border, and stay overnight in Siem Reap. During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy our night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown areas.
Guests are to be picked up at 5AM next morning at hotel in Siem Reap for viewing the picturesque sunrise at Angkor Wat and to guided tour in all the must-see temple of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Taprohm and other temples on small circiut till 4PM. After done touring, guests will be transferred back to border crossing, and expect to arrive at guests' drop off location in Thailand at around 10PM at the same day.

We apologize for the changes to our original itinerary and for any inconvenience. We look forward to your visits.

VISIT ANGKOR WAT, ANGKOR THOM, BAYON, TAPROHM AND SMALL CIRCIUT
Angkor Wat - begin visit the magnificent temple Angkor Wat built by Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. Angkor Wat symbolizes Mount Meru, home of the gods, and considered the pinnacle of Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple, which is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars during the reign of Suryavarman II. As well, Angkor Wat is well-known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. It is said to take a lifetime to discover all the wonders of this temple.

Angkor Thom City complex - continue to the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8 meters high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square with access to this town through 5 gates; 4 of them representing the cardinal points and the 5th one being the Victory Gate leading directly to the Royal Palace area.

You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.

After passing through the South Gate, you will go along a shaded road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.

From the Bayon continue by walking to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas, the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining features are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.

Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This terrace was the place where the parade was held for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King depicting the water world.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own cost)

Ta Prohm (known as Tomb Raider temple) & small circuit - continue to Ta Prohm, one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.

Your visit will also include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, and Srah Srang, also known as the "pool of ablution", the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.
