Day I - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom City, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Small Circuit, Phnom Bakheng Hill Sunset or Pre Rup Temple Sunset

Angkor Thom city complex
– you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transfer onward to visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square you access this town through 5 gates, 4 of them represent the cardinal points and the 5th one the Victory Gate was the one leading directly to the Royal Palace area.

You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.

After passing through the South Gate, you will go down along this shady road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.

From the Bayon continue by walk to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.

Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This Terrace was the place where the parade was done for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King, depicting the water world.

Ta Prohm overgrown temple – continues transfer to Ta Prohm - one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.

Your visit will include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”, the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Angkor Wat – continue visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by Suryavarman II in early 12th century. Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the mount Merou, home of the gods, considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple that is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II made during his reign. As well Angkor Wat is well known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the all temple. But like most say, it takes a life time to discover all the wonders of this temple.

Return to Siem Reap after watching sunset at Phnom Bakheng Hill. Dominating the flat landscape, this 10th Century mountain temple is the most popular spot in the area to watch a classic sunset over Angkor Wat and the surrounding forest or

Watching sunset at Pre Rup temple, a Hindu temple, built as the state temple of king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction. The temple’s name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.

Day II - Angkor Wat Sunrise, Grand Circuit, Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre and Kampong Pluk Fishing Village

Angkor Wat sunrise
- pick up at 5am for viewing the picturesque sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Return to hotel for breakfast.

Grand Circuit - after breakfast, explore the highlights of the Grand Circuit, like the overgrown Preah Khan temple and Neak Poan with its artificial lakes. Continue to East Mebon temple and The Pre Rup Temple.

Banteay Srei - continue excursion to visit Banteay Srei, made of pink sandstone and is one of the smallest temples you can visit but one of the most beautiful as well. Built in 967AD by a guru to Jayavarman V, it showcases the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architectures. As well the carvings and bas-relief are in a perfect condition although being here for more than millenary.

On the way back to Siem Reap, visit an isolated temple of Banteay Samre. Situated on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex, this temple is very similar to Angkor Wat. The structure with its typical lotus flowers shaped tower but has very compact proportions. This temple was built during the best period of the Khmer architecture and its condition is almost perfect.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Kampong Pluk fishing village - continue transfer to Kampong Pluk, is a cluster of three villages of stilled houses built within the floodplain about 16 km southeast of Siem Reap. The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3000 inhabitants between them. Flooded mangrove forest surrounds the area and is home to a variety of wildlife including crab-eating macaques. During the dry season when the lake is low, the buildings in the villages seem to soar atop their 6-meter stilts exposed by the lack of water. At this time of year many of the villagers move out onto the lake and build temporary houses. In the wet season when water level rises, the villagers move back to their permanent houses on the floodplain, the stilts now hidden under the water. Kampong Pluk’s economy is, as one might expect, based in fishing, primary in shrimp harvesting.

Kampong Pluk sees comparatively few foreign visitors and offers a close look at the submerged forest and lakeside village file. The area can be reached by boat from the Chong Kneah or by road. During the wet season, drive to Rolous village just off Routs #6 east of Siem Reap and then take a boat through the flooded forest the rest of the way. During the dry season the road is clear, making the boat unnecessary.

Then it's time for shopping at the Artisans d'Angkor, where you can observe young Cambodians being trained in the making of traditional crafts.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Return and drop off at your preferred destination.

Highlight of our trip - one of the best tours I've ever taken

I cannot speak highly enough Angkor Wat Services day tours! This review, from our 2 day tour in late March, is lonngg overdue but I couldn't bring myself to write a quick review that wouldn't properly do justice to the 5 star treatment we experienced. From the pre-trip organization to the top notch hospitality and attentiveness throughout both days by Mr. Kim and our driver - this was truly the highlight of our 16 day trip in Cambodia and the Philippines.

Pre-trip: We were referred by a colleague of mine who had recently used Angkor Wat Services day tours for his honeymoon and couldn't speak more highly of the experience. Mr. Sophoan was very quick to reply, incredibly courteous and not only provided us with ample information and resources, but also answered a number of questions from me.

Tour itself:
Our tour guide, Kim, was THE BEST. So much so that throughout the day, many other tour guides remarked how lucky we were to have him and believe me - we already realized it. Kim is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and together with our driver - provided the best hospitality we could have dreamed of. A huge thank you for your patience, friendliness and willingness to take literally 330 photos to insure our trip was documented and that these memories of a lifetime will be preserved. Thanks for humoring us and our crazy themed photos!

The sites are so beautiful - and there are many to be seen - they offered us the flexibility based on our needs, both with itinerary and timing and provided us with cold, bottled water, wet napkins to clean our hands, point to point service between the sites - all in a luxury vehicle.

Thank you, Kim, Mr. Sophoan and our driver (whose name I have forgotten - apologies!) for providing the best experience that we can't stop talking about since returning home!

Enjoy Siem Reap with Sophoan's assistance

Siem Reap is enjoyed best with the assistance of professional guides. It is because there are plenty of details that you want to know to be able to appreciate the temples you visit. Angkor Wat is the major attraction. There are several other temples that are also impressive. Travelers can read much about it. There are plenty of videos on the subject. But the richness of these human achievements in Cambodian history can be intensified if a professional guide is available.

I "encountered" Sophoan Rathh in Trip Advisor reviews and found these accurate. I sought his help. He promptly communicates with you, responding to your inquiries when you are still at your trip planning stage. He is clear on his deliverables, after you indicate your needs and expectations. Once you both agree on the details of your itinerary, he will send you right away, even before you request, a clearly written itinerary, detailing out your destinations, hotel arrangements, total cost and breakdown, and mode of payment. Sophoan is an example of a customer-focused businessman.

Although he was not the one who personally conducted us on our family's 2-day sightseeing, Sophoan arranged for us to be attended to by his very qualified colleague Lynet, who is very knowledgeable, courteous, always on time. There was never any moment we had to wait or look for him. Our family of 4 was transported in a well maintained and clean van. Our driver was quick to offer chilled bottled water at various stops.

It was Sophoan who welcomed us at the airport and brought us in his own vehicle to our hotel. He saw us off upon our departure. I appreciated the comfort he provided us in the airport-hotel-airport transfers.

Angkow Wat was produced by the hard-working, artistic and religious people of Cambodia. Travelers can have a deep sense of Cambodian history and civilization with the help of professional guides. Sophoan is highly recommended. He demonstrates what service excellence is all about.

Like Angkor Thom, the temple of Banteay Chhmar was accomplished during the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century. One of the temple's shrines once held an image of Srindrakumararajaputra (the crown prince), a son of Jayavarman VII who died before him. The temple doors record Yasovarman I's failed invasion of Champa. The long Old Khmer inscription found at the site (K.227), and now on display in the National Museum, Phnom Penh, relates how Prince Srindrakumara was protected on two different occasions by four companions in arms, once against Rahu, and once on a military campaign against Champa....

An inscription found at the temple provides a detailed account of Suryavarman II studying sacred rituals, celebrating religious festivals and making gifts, including white parasols, golden bowls and elephants, to his spiritual advisor, the aged Brahman Divakarapandita. The Brahman himself took an interest in the temple, according to the inscription, donating to it a golden statue of a dancing Shiva. In the wake of the decline of Hinduism in the region the site was converted to use by Buddhists....
