Vietnam news and events public holidays are days when workers get the day off work. Prior to 2007, Vietnamese workers observed 8 days of public holiday a year, among the lowest in the region. On March 28, 2007 the government added the traditional holiday commemorating the mythical Hùng Kings to its list of public holidays, increasing the number of days to 9. As in most other nations, if a holiday falls during the weekend, it is observed on the following Monday.
 
As well, there are many interesting traditional religious and cultural ceremonies and festivals throughout the year. They provide a great opportunity to participate in a centuries old tradition of the Vietnam’s society. Some of the major festivals and ceremonies are listed below:

New Year's Day
January 1st.
Locally called "Tết dương lịch"

Tết (Vietnamese New Year)

Last day of the last lunar month - 3rd day of the first lunar month.
Locally called "Tết Nguyên Đán"
Largest holiday of the year, occurs around late January-early February

Hung Kings Commemoriations

10th day of the 3rd lunar month.
Locally called "Giá»— tổ Hùng VÆ°Æ¡ng".
New holiday since 2007, around April (adopted by the government on March 28, 2007

Liberation Day/Reunification Day
April 30.
Locally called "Ngày giải phóng".
Fall of Saigon and reunification of Vietnam in 1975

International Workers' Day
May 1st.
Locally called "Ngày Quốc tế Lao Ä‘á»™ng"

National Day
September 2.
Locally called "Quốc khánh".
