Angkor Visitor Dress Code
Angkor is an active spiritual site for Buddhists and citizens who engage in daily worship, prayer and meditation. Revealing clothes such as shorts and skirts above the knees and showing bare shoulders are prohibited in sacred palaces. Respectful dress is strongly encouraged in Angkor due to the respects towards our community.
Cargo man short, cargo woman shorts and T-Shirt, cover knees and shoulders are recommended.
Currency
The official currency in Cambodia is Cambodian Riel. It trades at around 4,000 riel to one US dollar. The US dollar is Cambodia’s unofficial second currency; therefore, there is no need to change the money. In fact, it is best to carry US dollars with you while you are traveling in Siem Reap, Cambodia. There are ATM everywhere in Cambodia where you could pick up US dollars as well.

Day I - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom City, Bayon, Ta Phohm, Small Circuit, Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean Mountain River of 1000 Lingam Waterfall Excursion
Angkor Wat – you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transferred onward to visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by Suryavarman II in early 12th century. Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the mount Merou, home of the gods, considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple that is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II made during his reign. As well Angkor Wat is well known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the all temple. But like most say, it takes a life time to discover all the wonders of this temple.
Angkor Thom city complex – continue visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square you access this town through 5 gates, 4 of them represent the cardinal points and the 5th one the Victory Gate was the one leading directly to the Royal Palace area.
You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.
After passing through the South Gate, you will go down along this shady road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.
From the Bayon continue by walk to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.
Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This Terrace was the place where the parade was done for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King, depicting the water world.
Ta Prohm overgrown temple – continues transfer to Ta Prohm - one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.
Your visit will include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”, the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.
Banteay Srei – continue for an excursion to visit Banteay Srei, made of pink sandstone and is one of the smallest temples you can visit but one of the most beautiful as well. Built in 967AD by a guru to Jayavarman V, it showcases the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architectures. As well the carvings and bas-relief are in a perfect condition although being here for more than millenary.

Kbal Spean mountain waterfall - continue to the original “River of a Thousand Lingas” Kbal Spean is and intricately carved riverbed deep in the foothills the Cambodian jungle. Lingas are phallic representations sacred to Hinduism as symbols of fertility, and hundreds of them are carved into the rock here, as are several carvings of Gods and animals above the small waterfall. The area was only rediscovered in 1969 when French researcher Jean Boulbet was shown the carvings by a local hermit.

Amazing tour, great tour guide and driver and an excellent employee who arranged everything for us
We took an unforgettable one day tour of Angkor Wat and Thom and other temples in the area and used Angkor Wat Services (by the way, there are a number of companies with a similar name, so be aware of that).
I arranged everything with Sophoan Rath via email and could not be happier with the result. He is extremely organized, efficient and responsive and made setting everything up very easy. Our tour guide was Sim and he is very knowledgable (and well-espected by the other guides we ran into who knew him) and easy to spend the day with. We started out with Angkor Thom and ended up at Angkor Wat in the late afternoon, when crowds were thinner. It turned out to be an smart plan. I also have to mention our great driver, Tunar, who did an excellent job and was a pleasure to spend time with as well.
We opted not to have the local lunch near the temple and rather went back to our hotel. The guys were very accommodating about it. It turned out to be a great plan... a few hours off from walking through the vast temple sites in the midday heat was a welcome break and we enjoyed Angkor Wat that much more.
I would highly recommend this company and our guide and driver. They were genuinely the best. Tip: Feel free to avoid the sunset view from the temple on the mountain. It is wildly overcrowded and if you don't get there early enough (4 pm?), you may not be allowed to go up in time to see it (there's a limit of 300 people at any time). Sunset at Angkor Wat was more than beautiful enough for us and I think more spectacular in every way.
PS We also scheduled a tuk-tuk for the next day to see the area again and Sophoan arranged a very good driver who did a great job for us. Alas, I did not write his name down but we commend him, too.

Great communication!
Me and my friends arranged a 1 day tour of the main Ankgor Wat temples using this company. Communication was excellent from the start, with Sophoan helping me arrange the itinerary. I even had a small discussion with him in my hotel about Cambodia's history. He has lived through Cambodia's troubled past and it was a great honour to talk to him about his experience. The actual tour was also great. We visited all the main temples, our guide showed us the best way to go through them and of course gave all sorts of interesting information about them. On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Construction of the first temple on the site began in the early 9th century; both then and in the following centuries it was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva in his manifestations as the mountain gods Sikharesvara and Bhadresvara. The earliest surviving parts of the temple, however, date from the Koh Ker period in the early 10th century, when the empire's capital was at the city of that name....
