Option 5: South Countryside of Siem Reap Tonle Sap Lake Chong Kneah Floating Village Bike Tour
Overview
This option provides a great escape away from busy Siem Reap downtown, biking through the countryside to see the authentic freshness and greenery of Siem Reap. You will be welcomed by super friendly villagers and a different atmosphere as well as experiences, undisturbed by the crowds. You will be able to learn about Cambodian culture, interact with local people and see many aspects of rural village life, including unique housing structures (colorful homes built off the ground), kids and schools, Buddhist monastery (Arthvear pagoda with a 12th century temple built inside) and cultural history, especially the tranquil daily activities of the villagers.
The tour will be continued to observe the life on shore area of Tonle Sap Great Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia that helped to sustain and grow ancient Khmer civilization and continues to supply Siem Reap people. You will then be boarded on a boat to discover the most famous and fascinating local communities and their floating villages. Last but not least, you will return back to town.

The official currency in Cambodia is Cambodian Riel. It trades at around 4,000 riel to one US dollar. The US dollar is Cambodia’s unofficial second currency; therefore, there is no need to change the money. In fact, it is best to carry US dollars with you while you are traveling in Siem Reap, Cambodia. There are ATM everywhere in Cambodia where you could pick up US dollars as well.

Itinerary
You will be met and welcomed by our experienced cycling English speaking guide at your hotel with bikes and riding gears. Our guide will do itinerary briefing and begin the riding along Siem Reap river, leaving downtown through some splendid villages. There, you can absorb the real fresh air and some eye-catching views of thousands hectares’ rice field, big crowds of cow, buffalos, ducks, and many bird species flying above us making beautiful sounds. Learn about the lifestyle of villagers and what they do for livings: farming cycle, vegetable grown, haycock and so on. Visit the local market and taste the Khmer typical cookies. Visit Buddhist pagoda and learn about monks’ day-to-day routine. Stop for fresh coconut juice at a hammock restaurant. After that, pass by lotus flower fields to Tonle Sap to take a boat tour (boat tour is optional) to see floating village:
Chong Kneah floating village - after breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the Phnom Krom pier for boat on Tonle Sap Lake to visit floating village of Chong Kneah at the edge of Tonle Sap Lake. Cambodia’s Great Lake, the Boueng Tonle Sap (Tonle Sap Lake) is the most prominent feature on the map of Cambodia – a huge dumbbell-shaped body of water stretching across the northwest section of the country. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia, swelling to an expansive 12,000km2. During the dry, half of the year the lake shrinks to as 3000 km2, draining into the Tonle Sap River, which meanders southeast eventually merging with the Mekong River at the “Chaktomuk” confluence of river opposite Phnom Penh.
On the way back to town, visit modern Wat Arthvear pagoda, built on the ground of ancient 12th century Wat Arthear temple.
