Day I - Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom City, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Small Circuit, Phnom Bakheng Hill Sunset or Pre Rup Temple Sunset

Angkor Thom city complex
– you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transfer onward to visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall; each side of the city is 3 kilometers long. It draws a perfect square you access this town through 5 gates, 4 of them represent the cardinal points and the 5th one the Victory Gate was the one leading directly to the Royal Palace area.

You will arrive via the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and 4 giant faces. On each side is a row of 54 gods or demons holding the sacred Naga snake.

After passing through the South Gate, you will go down along this shady road to the Bayon temple. This temple lies exactly in the center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the then Great Khmer Empire. Each tower has 4 faces. This is the only temple in Cambodia depicting scenes of the everyday life at the time of the empire.

From the Bayon continue by walk to the Baphoun recently re-opened to the public. There you will pass by the Phimeanakas the location of the Royal Palace. The only remaining are a pond and a temple. The palace was made of wood and did not survive the time and the wars.

Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants. This Terrace was the place where the parade was done for the king. Next is the Terrace of the Leper King, depicting the water world.

Ta Prohm overgrown temple – continues transfer to Ta Prohm - one of the most popular temples of the Angkor Complex. This temple was built in the memory of the King Jayavarman VII’s mother. When found by the French conservators at the end of the 19th century, they deliberately left this temple in the same condition as it was discovered, overgrown by strangler fig and silk-cotton trees, giving the temple a mystical and romantic appeal.

Your visit will include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th century, Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”, the identical twin temples of Tommanon and Chaosay Tevoda, Ta Keo and Krovan temple.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Angkor Wat – continue visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by Suryavarman II in early 12th century. Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the mount Merou, home of the gods, considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture. This Vishnuite temple is the King’s funerary temple that is why the temple is oriented to the west. Inside the temple the walls are covered by carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II made during his reign. As well Angkor Wat is well known for the 1800 Apsara dancers decorating the all temple. But like most say, it takes a life time to discover all the wonders of this temple.

Return to Siem Reap after watching sunset at Phnom Bakheng Hill. Dominating the flat landscape, this 10th Century mountain temple is the most popular spot in the area to watch a classic sunset over Angkor Wat and the surrounding forest or

Watching sunset at Pre Rup temple, a Hindu temple, built as the state temple of king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction. The temple’s name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.

Day II - Angkor Wat Sunrise, Grand Circuit, Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre and Mechrey Floating Village

Angkor Wat sunrise
- pick up at 5am for viewing the picturesque sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Return to hotel for breakfast

Grand Circuit - after breakfast, explore the highlights of the Grand Circuit, like the overgrown Preah Khan temple and Neak Poan with its artificial lakes. Continue to East Mebon temple and The Pre Rup Temple.

Banteay Srei - continue an excursion to visit Banteay Srei, made of pink sandstone and is one of the smallest temple you can visit but one of the most beautiful as well. Built in 967 AD by a guru to Jayavarman V, it showcases the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architectures. As well the carvings and bas-relief are in a perfect condition although being here for more than millenary.

On the way back to Siem Reap, visit an isolated temple of Banteay Samre. Situated on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex, this temple is very similar to Angkor Wat. The structure with its typical lotus flowers shaped tower but has very compact proportions. This temple was built during the best period of the Khmer architecture and its condition is almost perfect.

Lunch at local restaurant (at your own costs)

Mechrey floating village - continue to Mechrey floating village, is a floating village about 15km north of Chong Khneas, about half way to Prek Toal. The village’s economy is based primarily in fishing, and quite a few farm crocodiles as well. In recent years Mechrey has also opened itself to eco-tours, welcoming tours of the village and area. There is also a fair bit of wild bird life in the area.

Then it's time for shopping at the Artisans d'Angkor, where you can observe young Cambodians being trained in the making of traditional crafts.

During the night of your stay in Siem Reap, you can enjoy Siem Reap nightlife, night markets, foods and other fun activities in Siem Reap downtown, Pub Street areas and city formerly French colonial head quarter.

Return and drop off at your preferred destination.

Whirlwind Tour handled with Perfection

We took the 2 days, 1 night Angkor Wat tour. It was a place we had been wanting to see and being in Thailand, it made sense. But no way I would want to do this trip on my own. And we are very glad we chose Angkor Wat Services Day Tours.

From the first email inquiry, I knew this was a top notch tour. Sophoan was very responsive, even given the 12 hour time difference before we got to Thailand, he would reply within a few hours to questions, and I had a lot.

As you can imagine, taking your family on a trip like this can be a challenge. But they made it easy. We were picked up at 5am from our Bangkok hotel, driven 3 hours to the Cambodian border. There we were met by a gentleman who told us what to expect at Thai immigration as well as Cambodian. He told us what we needed to do, what tricks to watch out for and then met us on the other side afterward. Tricks. So one good one, is the Thai immigration officer who told us it was $35USD for the Cambodian Visa. Right above his head is the sign stating its $30. After a minute of me telling him its $30 and given him exactly $30 per person, our visas got processed. Oh and don't forget there is also another small form you need to fill out as well to exit Thailand. We did not know, got to the officer -was told-had to step out fill out the forms-then the officer let us step back into line. On the Cambodian side it took less time. All total about 1.5 hours to clear both sides.

We were then taken to meet our Cambodian driver Keem (I believe that is his name.) Great guy -did not speak much if any English but could converse in Thai with my wife. We had a great 3 hour drive to Siem Reap. Once there, they took us to a very good restaurant and our hotel. Once done, it was off to tour.

The first stop was a lake (may be an ocean bay -I was a bit out of it given all the activities/chaos of the day and an on-coming major cold). Anyway the boat tour was to a floating Vietnamese village. This to me turned out to be the best part of the tour. It was the most interesting. To see these folks living on wood rafts with hut houses. Not talking down but just amazed at the resiliency of the people. Truly amazing. Once done we were taken back to the hotel and told we had a 5am pick up the next day.

5 am came and we went. Off to Angkor Wat and several other Wat's for touring. The goal was get to Angkor Wat for sunrise. Unfortunately, sunrise was hazy. Still it was beautiful.

Our driver Keem was our driver for the entire tour -that was awesome since we had built a rapport with him already. He would get us water, food and even got me a local beer!

Our guide was Kim. Never a happier man have I seen. He kept us moving and did it with a smile and humor. He was full of great information about the ruins, Cambodia and such. He took pictures for us, and even showed my wife how to do some trick pictures with her iPhone. Kim was awesome and always attentive to our needs. Make sure to ask for him you will not be sorry!

We toured until about 1pm. They took us back to the hotel to clean up and check out. I ordered some food to go from the hotel for dinner and we hit the road for a 3 hour drive back to the border. Crossed back into Thailand quickly -maybe 15-20 minutes total -it was Chinese New Year so likely immigration officers wanted to get to partying so they were lax. Then back to another 3 hour drive to Bangkok. We ended up back at our Bangkok hotel around 10pm.

For those keeping count, the day started at 5am and ended at 10pm with 6 hours of driving and 7 hours of touring in the heat/humidity of Cambodia. Now, the rest of the story....I was hit hard with a cold on the tour day...I pushed through but I can tell you it was a long hard day. If you decide to do the 2 day 1 night tour -make sure you are well rested and take some energy pills -you will need them! In retrospect, we would have preferred 2 nights, but that was not in our budget.

Now for a few tips and information. The Tour does not take credit cards. They do paypal and such. And on the day of, you need to pay in USD. Its how they do business. That was a bit off putting to me at first and of course carrying that kind of cash on you can be unnerving. Having said that -this team and company were just amazing and never once did I have a concern.

I highly recommend this tour company and specifically the gentlemen we had for driver and guide in Cambodia. We spent the most time with them and they never once wavered from being service oriented professionals!

So if you are thinking of touring Angkor Wat -email Sophoan and set up a great tour. You will not be disappointed, though you may be tired afterward. LOL.

Great experience with Poan!

My friend and I spend 2 days and 1 night in Siem Reap! We had a great time with Poan as our tour guide. We had a private driver the whole time. He picked us up from the airport, and then took us to our hotel to check in and drop our stuff, patiently waiting for us at the lobby. We then went for a great tour of Angkor Wat. That place was extremely touristy, which was a bit disappointing but still worth it. Then we went to see the sunset at another temple again very crowded and in the evening we went to see a traditional dance show with a buffet (I'm personally not a big fan of buffet so I would recommend a different more local option for dinner)

The next day we woke up very early (around 4am) to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Poan and our driver were again very punctual, waiting for us at the lobby. Again very touristy, but what can you do.

After the sunrise, we went back to the hotel for breakfast, and then left to see the other temples.. which were all amazing! Much less crowded, and more impressive in my opinion than Angkor Wat, which is the biggest temple.

On our way back, we went to see a concentration camp from the Khmer Rouge regime. It wasn't planned initially, but I'm so glad we ended up them before leaving. Every single person that visits Cambodia and Siem Reap needs to know that story. It was extremely humbling and put things in perspective of where Cambodia is now and what those people had to go through in the past. Poan was great a telling us his story and the one of his family and friends. It was very touching and emotional, but we would have missed out a big deal if we didn't listen to it.

Poan and our driver were extremely friendly and punctual. They made sure we were satisfied with our trip and went above and beyond to make it smooth for us. They are very knowledgable and we left Cambodia much richer culturally than when we arrived. We totally recommend tourist with them!

Great

We had a two day tour of the Cambodia temples. The guide met us one day prior to arrange visiting times and he was flexible regarding our alterations to times/places. He was always informative, friendly and efficient and also gave us gifts at the end. Truely wonderful tour, thanks very much.
